About me
Hello! My name is Rafa and I am a psychotherapist. I have been many other things, but I will tell you about those some other time.
My goal as a therapist i to support you in the exploration of your experience in an empathic, genuine and fully accepting way, facilitating awareness, self acceptance and change.
If you are looking for a therapist and want to know more about me, keep reading.
Therapeutic approach
I work primarily within the framework of humanistic psychotherapies . This means that I place a central importance on empathy and unconditional acceptance of the person I am working with. Not as something abstract or a mere tool, but as something authentically experienced. Cultivating these attitudes is part of my personal work as a therapist. The goal is to be able to offer you a facilitating atmosphere in which to explore your experience safely, where you can give voice and meaning to your emotions, especially those that are more buried, those experienced as unacceptable or incomprehensible, learning to listen to them from acceptance and curiosity . This process validates, empowers, reconciles and opens new paths for change .
Within this climate of empathetic accompaniment, there will be times when I can suggest techniques, ways of conceptualizing or facing a situation, always in a tentative and collaborative way, always keeping in mind that you are the one who knows you best.
In working with couples, the goal is to help them recognize and transform negative patterns of interaction, fostering greater emotional connection and security in the relationship through the identification and expression of emotions and the reconstruction of a secure bond.
There are several therapeutic approaches and theories that I find useful and that inform my therapeutic practice. If you have knowledge of psychotherapy, previous experience as a patient, or are simply curious, here are some of those approaches: person-centered therapy, emotionally focused couple therapy (EFT), cognitive-behavioral approaches, mindfulness, ... I advocate a pluralistic and flexible model of therapy, which tries to adapt to the person rather than trying to make the person adapt to the model.
I understand mental health as intrinsically linked to our relationships and the social environment in which we live. Happiness and suffering are not purely individual; they do not arise in a vacuum, but within a social context . The pressures and deep inequalities to which we are exposed inevitably influence how we perceive ourselves, how we feel and the difficulties we face. I believe that therapy must take these dynamics into account and avoid an individualistic view of mental health, which is neither realistic nor fair.

Therapy
I offer online therapy as well as in person in Madrid. Individual sessions last about 50 minutes and are usually held weekly, although it is common for them to be spaced out as the therapy progresses. Couples therapy sessions last about 65 minutes, and couples usually prefer a biweekly frequency. The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on the specific case, but the average is between 15 and 20 sessions. In any case, the decision on frequency and duration is yours, depending on what you need and what you find most helpful.
Cost
My standard fees:
Individual therapy (50-min sessions)
online: €45 per session
face-to-face: 55€ per session
Couples therapy (65-min sessions)
online: €55 per session
face-to-face: €65 per session
I believe that everyone should have access to psychotherapy, so I work on a sliding scale, saving some slots for clients who cannot afford to pay the standard fee. If this is your case, please enquire with me.
